Voltcontrol

Voltcontrol is the first initiative to cluster MCCS developments across Elia Group. We aim to use the Grid Monitoring, Control and Calculations products to achieve secure and optimised grid voltage management for the control centres of both TSOs, 50Hertz and Elia. Due to the increasing volatility and decentralisation of the grid, operators will have to perform many more actions on more units to ensure a stable grid. Today, a system operator undertakes around 10 switch actions per hour. In the future, this could increase to more than 60!

By 2025, the Voltcontrol initiative will offer support for operators in real time, near real time and in operational planning processes by calculating an optimal load flow in terms of voltages. It will determine the measures that should be taken by operators to manage the voltages and reactive power flow in the most efficient way. In the long term, we will automate this task as much as possible.
